‘빛을 가리는 물체의 뒷면에 드리워지는 검은 그늘’이자
‘자취’인 그림자는 그 존재의 증명이라고 생각한다.
낭의 그림자는 가시 삼거리를 오가는 사람들에게
‘만남’과 ‘쉼’ 을 제공해주었다.
점심시간이 지난 오후면 부른 배를 두드리며
휴식할 수 있게 했던 삼거리 낭의 그림자를 아로새겼다.
오후 2 시반 경에 생기는 낭 그림자 모양을 딴
돗자리를 만들었고 그 이름을 “퐁낭 아래 팡”이라 지었다.
예전 낭 그늘이 그래주었듯
낭 그림자 형상을 한 돗자리가 사람들로 하여금
잠시 앉아 쉴 수 있는 ‘팡(쉼터)’으로 거듭나게 하였다.
“퐁낭 아래 팡”은 큰사슴이 오름 앞 유채꽃 프라자,
가시리체육공원 등 가시리 이곳저곳에 설치되었었다.
I believe shadow,
the ‘dark shade casted behind object blocking light’ and ‘trace of life’,
is authentication of the being.
The shadow of the cherry tree provided encounters and breather to passersby.
I enchased the shadow of the tree of three-way intersection,
where pleasant break time was allowed in lazy afternoons.
A mat was made in the shape of the tree shadow casted around 2:30 pm
and was named “Pongnang a-re Pang” - Shade under Tree in Jeju dialect.
The mat in the shape of tree shadow was to be revived as ‘Pang (shade / rest area)’,
just like how shade of the cherry tree used to be.
“Pongnang a-re Pang” was installed at few different sites around Gasi-ri,
such as Canola Plaza in front of Keunsaseumi Oreum, Gasi Sports Park, etc.
